Inside “Icon League”: How Toni Kroos and Twitch star Elias Nerlich are turning indoor soccer into a multi-million dollar business

"Traditional football is losing its young target audience," says Marc Goroll, managing director of "The Icon League" – an indoor soccer league backed by world champion Toni Kroos and star streamer Elias Nerlich.

The young target audience is certainly present on the final day of the Icon League on Sunday in Berlin. The arena is packed, the event sold out. The seats and lines for food and drinks are predominantly occupied by Gen-Zers and Millennials.

But Goroll says: "We don't see ourselves as competition to traditional football." The Icon League is a different product in comparison. This is evident in the arena. One of the things that counts here is entertainment.
